Everytime I have installed a performance exhaust systems on my vehicles, I lose performance - mainly low end torque, throttle response and drivability. No one drives around at 5,000 RPM, and this is where the performance is noticed most.
I need an exhaust system that will increase performance without losing my low end torque. The engine in the Hummer is desgned to provide maximum torque at low RPMs to get this heavy vehicle moving. I have tried differnt brands on every vehicle that I have had and they all do the same thing. I am fed up. I odered the Corsa Touring series thinking this will add some additional back pressure over this current Gibson exhaust system. I regret ever removing my stock exhaust as this thing is very sluggish down in the low RPM ranges since I removed the stock exhaust. Any ideas guys? I am so tired of this marketing crap. All of their dyno charts so gains about 3200 RPM+, but we normally drive much lower than this. |

Always look at low end torque for these big rigs.

Can you offer some suggestions as to where to look when looking at exhausts?

My SUT used to downshift on a certain highway hill every day on my commute. If it didnt downshift it would slowly drop speed. Now it never downshifts and keeps a constant or slightly increasing speed. |

Yes Dan, I talked with Steve over there earlier today. Only thing I don't like is that this is a weld in kit intended to be added to your factory exhaust pipes. The muffler shop through away my factory stuff when I installed this crappy Gibson junk exhaust.

Usually I install anything from long tubes to cat backs... I don't want to lose any low end so a muffler is what is going on this time. Mark |

Do what I did. I had the extreme flow (May have been a bad one) and my performance dropped to zero. It then progressivly got worse and worse until it was scary to drive. Third trip to dealership they found temperature in front of exhaust muffler was off the scale(blockage). It was burning up the sensor. Dealership was nice enough to let me have an old factory setup that they had laying around from anouther exhaust swap out. Never drove better. Remember an exhaust system is almost a quarter of the way to a supercharger. That will be the way I go if I get the performance bug again. Good luck

Sounds very strange..... |

That's why I didn't do it. If I had a lift I definitely would have. Laying on my back and having hot slag dropping on me doesn't sound appealing.
![]() I bought a small MIG. Its actually a lot of fun! Made my air horn bracket, fixed a broken tool, put together a welder cart, and added some bracing onto the snowblower where it kept bending. ![]() |
