Got a new gadget the other day: wireless tire pressure monitoring system by Intellivalve.
I saw this system on my wife's new 2004 GC Overland as a standard feature. And after reading about them in a past issue of Truck Trend, I thought, "Hmm, a must have/want/need item for my H-too!". The tire shop installed the valve sensors on the wheels this morning. I attached the little monitor-display on the inside of the lid of the middle sunglass roof compartment (I don't have a sunroof, too much sun here), and voila! I hope to "save" the 300 bucks it set me back in the next decade or so... BTW There ARE cheaper and also more expensive on the market. This set up gives IMO the most/best "intelligence" for its price. |

Well you need them on a mini. Run low on air and you get asphalt butt chafing. The units look bulky, any problem with wheel balancing?

Nope, barbender. Not bulky at all and no wheel balancing needed either, when tires are not taken of wheels completely (or turned) to install transmitting-valve-sensors. The "bulky" part goes IN the tire. See attached pic. Taken just after the dog marked it). Now I don't have to watch out for butt chafing by Mini's, because will be warned in time when tires are low pressured.

Switched pics.
Above is the receiver attached to lid and wired to 12 V. Below is the valve, not big at all. Now waiting for the locking caps. |
That setup is really cool! I'd shoot the dog.

JCJ, I think it is a great gadget.
However, it appears the new stems would weight more than the stock stems. Since wheel/tire combos are balanced to ounces, is it safe to assume the new stems weigh several ounces more than what was on before? Maybe the tires should have been balanced, but there was a lazy, non-profit oriented person behind the counter. I ask this in all honesty and not sarcasm because it is the same type of thing I do not need that I may buy just to have ![]() ![]() Black Lingenfelter Lux |
