Michael,

Did you have that done at Fitzpatrick?

Looks great!

NCHummerman 04-30-2003 11:27 PM

Yes, Woggy ... I purchased the rack from Rich Lenz at Fitzpatrick and I asked Rod and Bret to install it .... they did a perfect job.

Is it all you thought it would be? I am torn between that rack and the alluminum one from adventure accessories. I really need a consumer point of view. Thanks.

Black H2 Adventure Series+ all other options.

Hi TBarrow,

You asked about my Gobi Rack ....

I considered the Adventure racks and a Manik rack .... I really think that the Gobi is best for me. My goal was to get more useable space inside the H2, without using the tire-on-the-rear option. I live in the SF Bay Area and trying to swing away the 100 pound tire on hills facing either up or down seems very dangerous to me, so with the tire on the roof, well, it is the best for me. The Gobi rack is built in such away that with the proper straps I can attach skis and snowboards with little trouble, as well as a lot of my daughter's "stuff" when I go to pick her up at college in a few weeks. The rack is very well made .... and of course, it really looks fantastic and gives the H2 a rather "meaty-mean" look ....

There are only two downsides that I can see ... number one, the rear lights are a "bear" to get on, and number two, if you need to get the tire off, well, just call OnStar or your auto club and make it their problem!..

In conclusion, I suggest that you consider whether you want a permanent rack or a portable rack. The only advantage that I can see to the aluminum racks is the portability feature, which in my case, does not matter. I know that you wi

I love the Gobi rack and was leaning that way. My biggest issue with the Gobi is that I like to park in the garage and work in SF and parking garages are low in the city. Also, I'm not a big fan of Gobi's low profile rack.

Wilderness racks just came out with a H2 sized rack. It is 4" high with a 1.5" bracket. Therefore, the rig and rack combo should still fit within my 84" garage. I'm installing this weekend, so helpfully it fits.

NCHummerman:

It looks great, my H2 is a clone of yours - or vice versa, except I didn't get the lights (since I generally don't go wheeling at night). I'm not sure if I like the wind ballast or not - mine is not mounted right now, but I like the way yours looks.

SJ .... I think that my truck is a clone of yours ... didn't you get yours before me ? I picked up mine on Oct. 25 ... the "wind shield" or whatever that plastic piece is called give you a bit better gas mileage believe it or not ... and the lights are great ....

Hi NCHummerman

Your Gobi Rack looks great (as does yours SJ). I just (Monday) finished working with Sandra (Gobi in Denver) to purchase a smaller (not thinner - they do have a thin version) rack version. I did not want the full rack to the front of my H2 even with the opening for the sunroof (I have a sunroof). My Gobi rack is 67 inches long and will stop about 6 inches from the back line of the sunroof - my small rack does not have the tire holder and with the use of extended t-bolts I will be able to mount (when needed) my Hummer Hard Cargo Carrier (a combo of open and closed storage option).

Lastly, Gobi is producing an extended ladder for me to fit away from my rear spoiler. Sandra and Paul at Gobi are great and enjoyed working with them. I think the Gobi Rack looks fantastic on the H2 (I did look at all theother racks). I will install after a May 12 delivery (less the ladder due a few weeks after that). Hope to post pics when fully installed.

Looks great! I wish I could put one on mine but the parking garages are too low here. Yup, it is also my daily driver.

Tbarrow
I went with the adventure one only because I already had $800 worth of lights on my light bar which would not rit Gobe without pulling it off the assembly line and modifying it & I couldn't picture how it would look. I think both are quality products. I got the 7ft & with the tire up there I def don't have as much storage as you get with the gobi

NCHummerman the rack looks GREAT!

What is the height of the truck now with the rack, lights and tire??

NCHummerman 05-03-2003 12:19 PM

Height is a "hair" under 96 inches ...

Thanks

I really want to install a rack with tire AND get it into the garage. My garage clearance is 91 inches. Any suggestions?

Woogy 05-05-2003 12:48 PM

HumDog,

I just mounted the Garvin Wilderness rack for a H2. The rack was 4 inches and the brackets added about 3". So it should fit into your garage with clearance.

With a minor modification to the brackets I can fit into my 84" garage.

It is very solid and looks good. Plus, you can get all kinds of accessories for shovels, hi lifts and other things.

I paid about $800 for it.
