So my wife took the Hummer to Pitre in Albuquerque, about two hours from my house, for its 30K service. She just called from the road, probably a half-hour from the dealership, saying that the speedometer is stuck on 120.
I called the dealership and they said that the instrument cluster needs to be replaced and I have to bring it back so they can get the part number off of it to order it. They also said that nothing they did during the service could have possibly caused the problem and that it must just be a coincidence. Additionally, they said that they have seen this happen a lot. Does this sound strange to anyone else? Has this happened to anyone here? |

Maybe your wife was driving really, really fast.
![]() What did you have done for service? |
She BETTER NOT be going that fast!! She was at a gas station when called!
![]() Service was the standard 30,000 scheduled maintenance. Fuel filter change, oil change, tire rotation, general inspection. Speaking with the service manager, it did not sound as if they did any work that would interfere with the instrument cluster. |
I used to have a pontiac sunfire that would do that all the time. I think it has to do with the govener, but I'm not sure.

Now that is rich. As Salinger wrongly said "People never notice anything"

When my wife got home I started to pull the panel and decided it was too much work for the time I had. So I decided to pull the instrument panel fuses instead and turn on the battery. I replaced the fuses and restarted and the speedomter started working a gain.
However, it seems a little off when driving. I'll drive it later tonight and tomorrow and see what happens. |

The electric motor that drives the speedo is bad. The dealer will just plug in the tech 2 to get the part number. They will have to order a new cluster. Very common on all GM trucks, dont put it off to long new car warranty will expire in 6k.

Just say that your speedometer isn't working right and it must be off a little bit. But that you have an appt with the dealer to get it fixed. I just may have to try that sometime ![]() |
