Hi,

Probably a stupid question but I don't have time to read a manual.

Do you have to remove radio antenna on 2004 when going through car wash? HOW?

The antenna isn't a problem in most car washes. However, if you want to unscrew it, just slide the rubber sleeve up, then use a small adjustable wrench and unscrew. Real easy.

I park in a large garage complex where the antenna scrapes and bangs everything, so I came up with this little invention that I keep on all the time.

You really can't see it here, but it's a small wire that hooks the top of the antenna and hooks it to the perimeter light. Now I clear everything.

Zazing,

Very cool idea. Very military looking. How exactly is it holding there?

I haven't had a problem at the car wash either. The antenna is on a very flexable spring and so far no problems

Alan, I took a clothes hanger, cut about 8". Then I made a small hook to hold the antenna, a hook on the other end, and bent it slightly in the middle to fit around the light. There's a small hole under the light that I hook to.

The only thing I don't like about this hook is going offroad. Trees knock it loose.

This has been bugging me for sometime:

Why in the world did GM move the darn antenna in the first place. I think it looks better on the roof and I have no reception problems.

Isn't there an aftermarket antennae that fits the base and is also shorter?

BTW Zazing, you could stamp a copyright on the hook and sell 'em for 9.99 plus shipping and handling.....but if you act now then we'll throw in a free Honda Element

Yes, this is my truck. No, I will NOT help you move.

I'm jealous.. You guys actual have automatic car washes that your H2 will fit in. Damn.. couldn't find any in Indy.. Now with the Gobi rack. unless there is such a thing as an autowash for a Semi.. I believe I'm stuck with the very poor spray wash booths.

Color me jealous.

KenP-

To address your question...

It's cuz the GM engineers understand theory but have never had to practice it...

That new design is absolutely idiotic...

I think every automaker intentionally change one little thing on the exterior of the auto every year. When I owned a BMW or MB, I used to know the difference between each model year. At one glance of a BMW or MB on the road, I can tell instantly which year and which model it is, in some cases, which part of year that model is, European model or American model. Such as the bumper, side mirrors, turn signal, etc. Very small changes the pros and people who follow that sort of things will know. Among car-guy friends it was a competition too, I know some kids who know all the technical details.

So, let me ask you, at a glance, can you tell which Hummer is 2003 or 2004?
You and I can, the Hummer salesmen can, nobody else know.

I like the short 03 antenna, but if I own a 04, I wouldn't mind the long antenna, it is neat. Can I add one to my 03 Hummer just for the look?

I have an 04 and the biggest advantage I see in it is clerance issues. If it hits and you can hear when it does it is telling me to watch out. Low ceiling!!!! Kinda nice feature.
