I was wondering... where are you guys going to take your H3 for regular maintenance service? (i.e. motor and trans oil change, filters, etc.)

The nearest HUMMER dealer is 100 miles from where I live and I was wondering if changing the oil myself or taking it to PepBoys or some other shop would void/affect my warranty? Besides, service prices @ the dealer are kind of expensive imo $100+ for an oil change is just too much.

What do you guys think?

Hi dude, I will be shipping out the carpeted floor mats tomorrow.

I took mine in for the first oil-change and with the 40-point check, and fluid top up included, it only cost me $43. They treated me like gold and were very thurough. I will continue to go to the dealer as long as the great service keeps up.

For home oil changes:
Keep all receipts for oil and filter, and make up an excel spreadsheet (or similar) showing miles, oil used, filter, etc. That will protect your warranty.
For express lubes:
Keep their receipt which shows miles, etc. That will also protect your warranty.

Per the Magnuson-Moss act, the manufacturer cannot void your warranty if they do not provide the services for free. Therefore, you can legally change your own oil or have a third party perform the service.

Changing your own oil is not hard at all on the H3, remove a few plates (about five minutes), and you don't have to jack it up at all; plenty of room to slide under.

Thanks a lot for the info f5fstop, what about trans oil, brake fluid, etc... can I also do that myself?

You can do any maintenance service on your vehicle. Again, just keep the receipts and keep a log. Just make sure to use the fluids recommended. The trans uses the new Dexron VI fluid, while the case uses Dexron III, the axles, I believe, use a synthetic type fluid.
The new brake fluid should last well up to 100K, as long as the system stays closed, and it is still being debated whether or not it ever requires flushing.
