Just talked to my dealer's part department about replacing the stock radio and cd player with a dvd player. They said they wouldn't do it and wouldn't even recommend anyone to do it, because lots of thing going through radio circuits.. like "keyless entry", "seat memories"... if you remove it, you'll remove all of that... But I saw a lot of you doing it, is that true? I'm thinking to remove them, but I don't want to loose other features. How do you guys do it?

I agree, when I was researching everyone told me that they had to tuck the factory head unit into the dash somewhere. You can add a dvd to your setup and still use the bose head unit mine can be seen here.

There are adapters now i think you need to buy two if you want to change the head unit. When i find the website again with the parts i will post them.

My factory head unit is in a box in my garage and those functions still work.

the radio is part of the class2 data uart circuit.the circuit is basically a computer network in the h2. as long as the circuit is not opened all other features will still work.
the modules on the circuit have to communicate with one another or the system will shut down. these modules are ipc=instrument panel cluster radio hvac= head heating ac control head pcm=powertrain control module ddm=driver door module pdm=passanger door module dim=dash integration module bcm=body comtrol module dsm=drivers seat module psm=passanger seat module rim=rear integration module sdm=airbag sensing and diagnostic module abstcm=antilock brake traction control module tccm=transfer case control module might of left a few out.if you take it to a reputal installer they have the adapters to not disturb the factory setup. |
That's awesome to know. Any one in Dallas that would recommend a good shop to do this?
Thanks again. |
JR'S CUSTOM IN IRVING IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE DALLAS AREA I COULD BEGIN TO TRUST FOR THAT. JUST MAKE SURE THEY GUARANTEE IT, BECAUSE I'VE SEEN THEM MAKE SCREW UP'S. THEY'RE JUST A LITTLE BETTER THAN THE REST.
