and it really wouldnt be that expensive.
Removing the driveshaft would be free, the hubs could be bought from a wrecky GM with the same front end which is pretty common since its been out for a few...

fine then.

Take out hte front driveshaft and install auto locking/manual hubs like they have on other GM part time 4wd systems and then you'll get the full benefit

I've been saying that for the longest time. Lock the transfer case in 4hi (1:1 gearing so it will be completely normal) and save the money on gas etc. Removing a driveshaft is simply 4 bolts on each...

maybe you could add manual hubs to the front end, but then you would have to lock them everytime you wanted 4wd, but you could probably get a few mpg's out of it. Not entirely sure though, but a lot...

GM probably put it there as a for techs to know when max. fording depths have been exceeded by vehicle to cut warranty reimbursement expenses etc....
