I hate 'em too! CA has the same requirement, and I have not had one for over 10 years with never a problem. You might want to remove the little white fasteners though so you have a better chance of going the "Oh damn! It must've just fallen off!" routine if you ever do get pulled over.
Besides, those little white thingies screw up your otherwise OUTSTANDING statement in black!
