HUMMER Is Gearing Up For The World's Most Grueling Rally
GM Internal Communications, December 21, 2005 .... HUMMER is sponsoring Team Dakar USA in the six-thousand mile Dakar Rally, considered by many to be the most challenging race of its kind in the world. The team is currently practicing in southern California.
Robby Gordon Motorsports joined HUMMER to lead Team Dakar USA from behind the wheel of a HUMMER H3 race truck. HUMMER will be attempting to show the world that North American vehicles can stand up to the most punishing conditions.
The Dakar Rally starts on New Year's Eve in Lisbon, Portugal, moves to Malaga, Spain and then takes a seven-hour ship crossing into northern Africa for the bulk of the competition. It takes two weeks to cover the 16 stages that take the vehicles through Morocco, Mauritania, Mali and Guinea before finishing in Dakar, Senegal in West Africa.
