My guess is it's the same thing on the outside as the inside. Pulling on the handle when you're opening it via remote or console causes the lock not to open all the way. Just tell them they need to be a bit more patient. LOL! 
The locks work really well when putting it into reverse, or when the car is in motion. A slight movement off the brake causes the doors to lock...if you have it set up that way according to the manual.
