IMHO, the hybrid in the article will serve the function of a heavy duty golf cart. However, shuttling people around a military compound also often entails moving equipment, so I wonder about its usefulness.
As far as replacing the Humvee in the field, I doubt it. The Humvee does an outstanding job moving people and hardware across open space. The army might come out with something even heavier than a humvee, carrying armor, to deal with IED's in urban environments.
It would be interesting to hear from some of our members in Afghanistan or Iraq regarding all of this. God bless and protect them all.
