Diesel H1's are OK in CA. I was once told diesel legality was based on a ratio of mfr's total fleet emissions, but since only diesel trucks seem to be permitted, GVW ratings seem to factor in as well. I searched DMV and CARB websites to try to find the controlling reg, but came up empty. VW did sell a few diesels in CA in 2003, but the state came down hard on them.
Anyway, I think Ahnold got a specially built hydrogen-powered H1 and is having the State build fueling stations.
