Layers truly
are better than just a heavy coat. T-shirt + long sleeve shirt + sweater/sweatshirt + a moderately heavy coat should be sufficient in lieu of a really heavy coat for getting around from vehicle to building without being too miserable. If you go to downtown Minneapolis, you may have to walk a few blocks outdoors though if it's night time. So do wear a hat gloves and scarf if you can.
