Here is my thoughts on it. You can either just leave the factory tranny, which will last a while depending on how you drive, and have it rebuilt tough when it goes out. If money is no object, go ahead and do it now.
Here is a 3rd opinion. You can go to the dealer and tell them the year of your vehicle, and tell them to give you a Corvette 2-4 servo for that year. This can be easily changed with the trans in the car. Just either make sure you know what you're doing or take it somewhere, it's easy to put part of the servo in backwards, and that will wear trans out.
With the Corvette Servo, you will get a very nice firm 2nd gear shift, and that's when you'll be on the throttle a lot. Most of the time, you'll probably have backed out of the throttle by the time you hit 3rd.
