Some of the NAV units have "LUX" or "PREMIUM" listed on the part number label. If not, the part number will have to be used to look up which system it is made for.
When we say "programming" we are referring to the VIN lock. The first time a brand-new NAV unit is powered up, it stores the VIN of the vehicle it is installed in. It then compares the stored VIN number in memory to the current VIN each time the unit is powered up. As long as they match, everything is fine. If they do not, the unit will display "Theftlock Activated". At this point, the vehicle will have to be connected to a Tech2 diagnostic unit to command the NAV unit to "relearn" the VIN from the current vehicle.
So yes, the NAV unit needs to be installed first, before it can be unlocked.
