Hi Thumper and Buttercup!! Welcome
Jonahs is correct about computer relearning anything. If You had stock MAF when You put on new air intake that is what the MAF does is look at the volume of air going past sensors and adjust fuel ration. When You bought the Granitelli did You get the cold air intake calibrated one? It works much better and You can get some false codes with the MAF for stock intake on a cold air intake. I have run both for around 6 years on several rigs. The cold calibrated one is just as it suggests for more cold air than stock. I have never had to disconnect any cables although it is a good idea. The mechanic is going to do it more for liability reasons is My guess. As a rule when Your working around the fuel area it is safer not to have to contend with sparks from electrical. The only way I can see to manipulate is as Jonahs says with a programmer.
I have not upgraded MAF on My 05 H2 as Lingenfelter and the company I got My cold air intake from said it does not help much on the H2. With that being said by them I just have not done it. Having air/fuel ratio lights like Jonahs would really shed the light on that. I'm going to add the info center Jonahs designed to My rig and probably will get cold air MAF to see if it does anything while I can watch gauges.
