A 3" is the minimum width for the wieght of our trucks. I think a 30" is sufficient for most recoveries.
I carry a 3"X40' strap that I ordered from company up in Canada that makes custom straps (got it before TrailDuty's inception) and an extra 4"x20' just in case. The 4" isn't really that great for "plum stuck" recoveries because it doens't allow much dynamic stretching.
Don't forget a tree saver if your winching or use a snatch block.
And yes, don't allow rednecks to use the hitch ball on their 8" lifted chevys to pull you out of mudpits. That was dumb and I knew better.
