I drove down from Dallas to attend the Houston McGinnis Hummer Happening. It was a great group of folks and a ton of fun. I packed in my wife, my two kids and my parents! Lots and lots of sand, very little mud. Made for an easy cleanup later.

It rained off and on during the day, sometimes very hard, and by the end of the day, the creek had gotten very deep in spots. At one point, a truck in our group got buried in one of the only big mudholes at the course. (Two of his tires sidewalls were not able to be seen he was so deep.) While our group leader was attending to him, they turned the rest of us loose if we wanted.

A few others and myself took the opportunity in hand and made our ways off down the creek. Again the creek was rising. We crossed where we had earlier and water not only broke over the hood (and we were not moving very fast in 1st gear 4WL and locked) but also washed a huge amount up and onto the windshield. We continued slowly (but not too slow) across with water breaking the hood line. It was one of those things I just thought I would never see. The H2 pulled through, but was missing on a cylinder on the other side. Thankfully it dried itself out. Obviously, we were a bit beyond the 20” spec… (We crossed back in a spot we knew to be shallower going back.)

Also this was my first time to see a H2 airborn. That was just a bit exciting as well.

Spring Creek ATV Park was a blast if you like sand, lots of inclines and chances to ford water. There are some hills steep enough to be challenging to almost any Hummer. The 4X4 area is not terribly large, but I will be going back week after next on my own for a bit more fun.

I did learn one thing about attending an event of this size. Make sure you are at the back of your group. Two others and me got to experience some of the obstacles over and over while others were waiting in line for the next. Weeeeeee!

Black 2003 H2 - Just like most of yours, just possibly with less crap bolted on.
