Careful now- one of them is my Daddy.
But yes, the
wonderful "stories"!
It is one of the worst jobs ever! Of course, you get the good cases- wisdom teeth extraction, biopsy, implants, mandibular fractures and rewire, extra teeth were always cool.
However, most of your 15 minute appointments are plain old extractions- yes some people tried their damnest to keep their teeth but there are circumstances that happen and they can't.
But most of the time it was the people that have never heard of a toothbrush, people I wouldn't feel comfortable walking on the same sidewalk with. And you have to be all up in their stuff and of course those are the ones that you have to chase down and put into collections.
After their 15 minute appt. turns into an hour because they are all scared and then you tell them how much the general anesthesia is and they don't want to do that it's expensive- but they have 3,000. rims on their '89 civic.
So we will do it with local and yes the shot hurts but then it will only be pressure. "Oh yeah sure answer your new cellphone in the middle of surgery too."

Then you have to manuever around the crap in their mouths ( you don't want to know- trust me)to find the blackened nub that they neglected and try to elevate it while they are moaning that it hurts-

nevermind that we have already exposed thier jawbone and thier gums are flapping around like meat.
Finally get the bitch out and run into the hallway to breathe decent air. Come back - suture em' up and never see them or thier money again unless they like the pain meds too much.
Then when they come back they give you **** because you want the balance paid before taking the next nub out

- that they have to have out that day and ruin your schedule.
Pisses me off. Anyway sorry for the rant, but as a specialist- not only did you go to school for 12 years- major- dental- specialty school-residency. Then you end up kissing the General dentists but for referrals and have to be nice to the trash they send you. Sucks!
