Ric, it is normal but doesn't mean it's right. Many times the problem is some gear at the differential, not sure exactly what the deal is but I talked directly to the service tech at my dealer (local dealer will look into any problem and doesn't just say it's normal, forget about it) and he said that the GM trucks do the same thing and that it's a simple fix to add some type of adhesive grease to splines on the gear and it takes up the slack. He said that it won't stay there and might have to be added later again.
He did say that it is not a mechanical issue though.
