Theres a sensor that will automatically switch from daylight running lights(in the bumper ones) to headlights depending on how dark it is when set in "AUTO MODE". You can turn the headlight switch to the left (counter clockwise) to disable the auto feature. I can look at the manual if you want to know what all the positions do on the headlight switch.
