Not sure if this will help. The IPOD interface I used works in conjunction with an auxillary input device. By using this, the radio acts like it has an extra input within the XM mode. When sellecting IPOD, you push the seek function up 3 times and down 1, which selects the new input. When you want back to XM1, you go up 1 down 1 on the seek function. What it sounds like to me, and I may very well be wrong, is that they cut the wire in order to "jump" the ipod device into your XM1, effectively removing it. This, I think , would not affect xm2. Ask them if they used an aux input in conjuction with the IPOD interface. Hope this helps a little.
