I went over Independence Pass the other day in my H2, and let me say I was happy I went East to West. That road is so narrow, the side that hangs over the edge is crumbling inside of the white line with cones there to help you avoid immediate death. Anyway, if you go E to W, you can hug the side of the road that is along the mountainside.
So on the Aspen side, I had to fold my mirrors in to avoid losing them at some points (I don't know how they survived) because there are spots where the road is so narrow, there is no yellow line. Anyway, about halfway down, there was a spot where a car must have gone over, because there were emergency crews hanging down with tow straps. Anyway, just a little advice.
