To answer your question as to why, the answer is that I am considering when my H3 goes off of the 1 year free plan of not renewing. At that point the device is useless to me and I would rather not have it in tracking my usage since I am not paying for it. So like other GM owners have, I wish to simply unplug it.

If you really understood how OnStar works, and also understood that OnStar could not give a mouse turd as to where you are, you would understand that disconnecting is not necessary.
Only reason for OnStar to track you is at your request, or the request of the police, and only then with a court order. (Are you wanted for something?)
For those who think that OnStar workers sit around all day long randomly searching for their customers should purchase some more aluminum foil. After all the aliens are looking for you.
