I have a portable winch (9500ti) and it is a LOT lighter with the synthetic line. I'd definitely go synthetic.

x2! Plus, if you do change from cable to synthetic, make sure you change the fairlead from a roller style to the other smooth style.(k, i don't know the word for smooth fairlead
