I use Garmin City Navigator in the car and Garmin Blue Charts on the boat - they are both excellent - I think.
I use a Garmin 276c Plus - I have never lost the signal on it, even going through the only tunnel in Florida - granted it is only about 50 yards long.
City Navigator seems to be pretty comprehensive and does the auto rerouting thing well - I think most Garmins can be connected to a PC - I used to use an Etrex in my old H2 linked to a laptop.
I wish that I had waited for the 376c though - it is equipped with XM radio and live weather radar feed that you can overlay on the base map - great for on the boat.
The thing I like the most about the 276 is that you load all the base maps onto a memory card - so I keep City Navigator on one card and Blue Charts on another - I just swap the cards out when I move from the truck to the boat.
