I was trying to think where they could save 500 lbs....maybe the bumpers and tire carrier redesigned, tailgate seems too heavy on SUT, more fiberglass body panels, thinner glass,.... uhh that's going to be tough w/o pussifying the drive train.
Is the 6.2 lighter than the 6.0?

Yeah, to be honest i don't know how to take 500 lbs off, either. Shorten it an inch or two (does ANYBODY have too little headroom in that thing? i'm 6'1 and there must be miles above my head in my normal driving position).
Its an expensive truck and expensive to drive, and then people throw 10's of thousands at it aftermarket often, so i think that most H2 drivers would pay whatever for the thing, or at least quite a bit more. Cost is its own reward with respect to image, anyway. So maybe they could break out some aluminum.
The thick window glass could maybe be replaced with laminated glass & keep a similar level of sound isolation, but otherwise i'd rather keep my thick glass.
i get about 13-14/12-16, average for city/highway about 14.5 overall, offroading excluded. I've wondered if they've snuck some improvements into the thing over the years w/o telling anybody.
And aerodynamics! I'm not saying make it look like an EScalade, but they could make a pretty sizeable reduction in drag while keeping it hummerish, i think.
I think they could find a way to sneak a 20mph EPA highway figure in there. Maybe 14/20 or 14/18 or 15/18 or whatever. In line with other large vehicles, which would go a long way towards mitigating the hummer-as-focal-point-of-the-mileage-wars.
2wd as an option is a good idea, too, i think.
