do not worrie about not being flat . this has been argued over and over . these are made for sail boats , when sailing the vessel is pitching and yawing at the sametime and it is designed to still give an accurate reading just figure its acurrate to +/_ 5 degrees . you will be fine i know i have tested it to the Max
