All the mileage tips i can think of are to just not drive it like a rental, and avoid protrusions that worsen aerodynamics. Roof rails/bars/racks and big elaborate steps almost certainly have a measurable negative impact on mileage. Beyond that just keep the truck maintained & running well (alignments and all).
Good luck with the project if you opt to go with it.
And i do think that a 3-way t-case with 2wd, 4-hi, and 4-lo would be a really cool thing for a next-generation H2. They could improve the crawl ratio while they're at it...
