Instrument Panel (I/P) Assist Handle Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the passenger I/P (Instrument Panel) side trim panel. Fully open the I/P storage compartment.
    Important

Both the left and the right assist handle release buttons face the outside of the vehicle. The release buttons need to be pushed towards the inside of the vehicle to release the assist handle.

Using a long flat-bladed tool, through the opening in the I/P retainer (1) on the passenger side of the I/P:
    1. Push in on the assist handle release button (2) and
    2. Pull out on the handle to partially disengage the assist handle.
Using a flat-bladed tool, through the I/P storage compartment opening, push in on the inboard assist handle release button (3).
  2. Remove the I/P assist handle.

It sounds as though you are there. Just take a long flat bladed screw driver and there is a slot from the outside that you can see into the metal rod that the handle is made to. There is a little metal clip type retainer that simply needs to be pushed lightly towards the driver's side.

Same thing on the inboard one but I think you have to come at it from inside the glove box area. You push in on the little white button thingys and pull out on the bar and work it out
