Default Shouldn't I Be Underwater?

According to this story, and so many others, why can I still visit 100 year old sites at the beach, which were never much above sea level, and still not be submerged?

Global Warming Reaching Million Year High

I mean, they're saying about 25-40 feet of water rise/1 degree Celsius. So since temperatures have come up almost 1 degree Celsius since 1900, shouldn't most of coastal NJ, DE, etc. be underwater now? They weren't in 1884, and they still aren't today. This is one of the things I just can't seem to understand.
