You definitely can get away with the 6" lift, how wide are you going with the 40's. I run 38x15.5 on stock suspension and get a little rubbing in full turn, not anything going down the road, and we had some massive flooding back in July and all roads were (some still are) rough as hell and I never rubbed on them. Some people here thought they wouldn't fit or would tear my chit up, but they were mistaken. I'm debating on a lift though, but I do not know how bad it will effect the center of gravity, I've rolled a bull dozer and a skidder over and do not want to add the hummer to the list
