A $3k beat up lifted CJ can out wheel most of our vehicles, but we chose the vehicle we have for our own reasons, and I don't think it matters if anyone thinks it is good, bad or indifferent off-road, as long as you are happy with it yourself.
I like the FJ and think with a few mods it will be an excellent wheelin' vehicle, but I'd buy a 4 dr JK first and think a slightly modded JK will leave just about any 2 or 3 behind on the trail. But that's just another opinion and we all know about opinions...
