Hi

The tent can be turned any way you want it.

On my old car i had it turned backwards. It was a Mitsubishi and on that car the supplied ladder from the tent would reach the ground, but there is no way that it will reach the ground on the hummer, that's the reason it's tied to the front grill.

The nice thing about this setup is that if your car is not parked level, you just move the ladder, this way you can adjust part off the tent to be level, making it easier to sleep.

I have even seen a few people having it turned sideways.

If you turn it either backwards or sideways, you even get a bit off shadow under the tent, and if you get light rain, you will be able to sit under it in shelter.

You can also get a "shower skirt" to fit under the tent, so you have you own bathroom

The way that I have it mounted, I have access to the tent both from the front and from the back.

After I have used it for a while, I now only enter the tent from the back. This way I can keep my shoos on the roof rack, instead off on the hood. This way they are not so likely to get eaten by the wildlife

Yes, I had to cut into the Gobi to get it to fit, I really didn't like doing that, but I needed the space.
