I think the biggest issue is going to be to have close tolerances between a pin and a hole and having hard enough steel on both that the won't wear each other making LARGE tolerances and creating noises and rattles..
With the weight of the guard pulling back and bouncing on the pin or catch release mechanism as well as the hinge, it's going to be a constant battle against wear.. The Amstar wrap around sits on supports on the hood, so it's doesn't stress the catch and hinge as much...
