Luckily I still have the box with the S/N on it...so if they try to pawn it off it should be fairly easy to find. If they decide to keep it for themselves then it will be a little bit more difficult.

No harm in asking the suspect. When you do, make sure you bring a blank VHS tape with you and tap it on the side of your leg as you ask them.
