on the older trucks I used to pull the bolts on the rail and let the gear rotate a bit so the puller fit straight. its way easier and less damaging then a pickle fork. if it all else use a cut off wheel to slice the old arm so it "pops" then it comes right off. by the way pickle folks are for ball joints and tie rod ends.
