Given its age if the batteries are over 4 years old I suspect they are due for replacement. if you have a volt meter you can check output from the alt. by setting up the meter and seeing if its got an output voltage about 1 1/2 to 2 volts above the 12 volt static charge. if you rev the engine and hold it at about 1500 rpm it should be making around 13-14 volts if its working right. if the batteries are really weak or they have a draw on them it will cause them to charge at a higher rate. to check for a draw remove the battery cables and put a test light between the cable and the post it was removed from, if it lights even a little you have a draw. then its just a matter of figuring out why.
