Having had coffee spilled in mine by an un-named wife of mine, I can speak from experience.
Pull the shifter cover off, yes you'll have to dig around for the clips that will fall off, pull connector plugs apart that you find down there and blow out with compressed. Let them sit apart for a while and plug back in later.
You can use any air compressor, or any sort of compressed air. Even the computer keyboard cans.
