its the serial data bus connector to talk directly to the computer so you dont have to half ass is w/ a key taped under your dash.
I had my viper pulled from my old car installed for $175 inluding that adapter.
You can do neat **** w/ it like when its below freezing out, the remote start will auto turn on your heated seats. Roll all windows up/down, etc..
