Default Re: New to H2...What's up with $200.00 Nav update?

CONGRATS and WELCOME!

Push for a free disc if the truck still has the original disc. There should be two free updates for the life of the truck. Unless your truck was purchased used and given the factory extended warranty they should cave. Worked for me last year but took me a little whining... For some reason if the truck was sold as a used "certified" hummer they cancel the free disc offer.

There are some that have been sucesfull at dowloading or ripping a copy of the ISO and using a "back up" copy in the unit. The issue with this for Hummer is that most of the optic lenses on the DVD readers are not set correctly and do not do well reading burnt dual layer DVD's... Also an issue of having to burn the back up as a DVD-Rom booktype and not all burners can do this.

I actually prefer my Magellan to the stock for ease of use and features and am considering ripping out the stock nav unit and replacing with an aftermarket double DIN size and the kit to allow the steering wheel controls to work the head unit. But looking at around $700 for this in parts...

Another option is if you are in good with the service DIRECTOR (not the advisor), maybe you can see if they have any turn ins that are going to go to auction that may have a newer disc and swap your disc witht he newer one. No one at auction is going to be looking to see what version the disc is, only that the navaigation works...
