I'd probably be more concerned about mud/grit getting in the gear box for the steps than anything. You could pull the fuse on them and make sure to clean everything out before powering back up. Pretty sure the side of the gear box assembly is servicable.

Personally my opinion is buy some POS for couple grand if you want to beat the hell out of it in the mud... Some times when you do **** like that, the vehicle never feels the same.

I agree 100%, I used to have a lifted Excursion which I went mudding in a lot, and it never felt the same..... Plus it sucked azz finding mud inside the door panels and everywhere 10 months later.....

So yeah its suppoer fun, but I'd buy a POS to do it with after all the money i've dumped in mine.
