The GM ID is only a coupon that is used at the Dealers discretion. The dealer at no point has to accept the coupon. So if you work out a discount on your Hummer then you throw down the GM ID they will get mad and renegotiate your price. Think of it as an advertisement gimmick to get you into the GM floor.
You basically have to buy at the advertised price, which is already jacked up, then they will most likely give you credit towards the GM ID. The discount is based on the % of the sale price. If you go in with a trade-in and the ID, you will get ripped off on your trade-in. The best way to us the ID is to go to the dealer with bank support for the sale price and then slap down the GM ID. They will be mad and might not want to take your GM ID. If a dealer can’t make $4000,00 on your deal they don’t want to deal. Remember. Every dealer gets credit at the end of the year on the total amount of new vehicles that were sold.
What GM employees might tell you, has nothing to do with what Dealerships will do for you. If you ask me, some of GM’s failure has to do with greed on the part of the Dealership and lazy UAW.
Any other deal will get you less for your GM ID. Remember, Dealers do this for a living and they know how to get you tired. But again it could just be me?
