Well, you might have burned up the fuel pump.
I just got a HUMMER last week, so I not all the up to speed on the technicals...but
I also have 98 TransAm which if you run out of gas, you run the risk of ruining the fuel pump.
Nowadays, the pumps are generally in the tank and are cooled by the gasoline. When you run the pump dry they can overheat, and as well it is detrimental to run the pump dry.
The best way to check would be to break a fuel line connection and see if the pump is pumping...or tie in to the shrader valve connection on the fuel rail.
