The strap that holds the side curtains is in the A-pillar. However, I believe the actual inflater (explosive device) is at the rear, but I have not seen an actual set up to prove this out.
I will say what I would do is remove the A-pillar molding and take a look. If it is only a small strap then I would have no problems, if the initiator module is there, I would be more careful. The wires to the inflater are Dark Green and Brown.
But, if you feel more comfortable with the connector under the column, go for it. It should be easy to spot, it will have a lot of wires going up the column, and from the other end going toward the body.

It is advisable to disconnect the negative battery cable after testing the circuit and before splicing in the wire to the RAP. Just thought I would mention that.
