That lag is exactly what torque management is. It PCM quickly and greatly retards the ignition timing prior to a shift. This makes for a Lazy or soft shift. It greatly reduces the wear and tear on the transmission. This is great for keeping warranty expense down but stinks if you like firm shifts. A programmer can help but you might have to select high octane tuning to accomplish that. I would call the manufacturer directly to get that answer.
