Default Re: CV Joint failure

I had my CV joint replaced last week, or maybe the week before, Wright kept my rig for 2 1/2 weeks.

Manager said that the damage was in the grey area ( meaning warranty coverage was questionable ) but replaced it without charging me. When I got to the dealership, I inspected the area around the CV joint, and found no damage anywhere.

With the CV sitting up so high above everything else in that area, surely something else would have been damaged?

Mine was grinding, metal to metal and the boot was split in two. It looked to me that the boot failed and dirt/sand got into the CV causing it to fail.

As the grease warms up, it is spread more evenly through the joint. When cold it is sat in one area. So the grinding your hearing might be the begining stages of the joint failing.

I am not a pro though, and your service manager has had lots of training.

However I have more common sense than the last service manager I dealt with.
