Check out the article in the current issue of Motorcycle Consumer News. According to the author of that article, this report is biased against the motorcyclists because of the use of the word "died." The writer posits that if news reports such as this were even-handed or baised in favor of the motorcyclists, the report would have read "four motorcyclists were killed." A "killing" implies an unjustified act at the hand of another, while, the author claims, a "death" is more natural or at least a loss of life caused by other than an external source.
Aside from all that, most authorities on motorcycling recommend against passing on a blind curve because of the possibility of encountering a large, hard, moving object in the other lane. Sounds like the bikers gambled and lost.
