I'm getting ready to bring in my SUT for its first checkup. Dealership told me every 3000 miles for oil changes with various other things being done. Problem is the other dealership in town says every 7500 miles for service. Dealership one is going to charge $69 for oil change and "fluid check". Dealership two is going to charge $225 for oil change, tire rotation and "fluid check"

So I'm wondering, what is the manufacture's recommendation and what are all of you doing for service? Lastly, how much is everyone paying?

I'm getting the tonneau cover added on this trip after reading the post below. The salesman quoted me $950 (MSRP as an option), the service department said it would be closer to $1400. I told them to hash it out with the salesman. I could have gotten it as an option when I ordered it for $630 since I had a GM certificate. In fact, mine originally came with one (I didn't order it) by mistake and I had them subtract if from the price and they subtracted the $630. They better give it back for no more than the $950. (hopefully)

Why wouldn't they give it to you for the original $630 that was credited to you?
They are probably gonna sell you the exact one that they took off of yours!

All the recommended maintenance is in your manual & I believe the oil change is every 7500 miles.

Yeah, you're right, but since I didn't "buy" it when I picked up the vehicle they are charging me MSRP.

What bugs me is that it doesn't come installed from the factory, so its not like they had to remove it and now reinstall it. So it really is the same as if I had bought it from the beginning. However, if I want it now, I have to pay the MSRP.

The manufacturer says change the oil according to the on-board computer's oil monitor -- not every 3,000 miles. This should normally be around 7,500 miles or so. My dealer charges about 30 bucks or so for the oil change. Don't be ripped off...

I do the same as mstams. Usually wait till my oil life is below 20% and make an appointment, then check the manual to see if anything else needs to be done around that mileage mark.

If you think the oil change is bad, just wait until your first 30,000 mile service. Paid $90 for a new air filter. Total service was around $750. OUCH!!

Okay, help me out here. . . Based on the maintenance schedule for my 2005, there is no 30,000 mile maintenace. In fact, the first thing other than oil and tire rotation (and inspecting the exhaust and fuel systems every 25k)is transfer case fluid replacement at 50K. Even cooling system service isn't for 150,000 miles or 5 years. It looks like the first real big maintenance effort is at 100,000 miles.

Is that only true of the 2005s? Am I missing something?

I have an '03 and 30,000 is the first major maintenance when I looked it up. Maybe it changed for 05's? I got my service info from www.mygmlink.com.

$750 for 30K mile scheduled maintenace is a rip-off. You can do most of the scheduled maintenance yourself if you want to but if not there's still cheaper places than the dealer. Just document that you had it done.

Interesting. That's where I was looking when I wrote my post. . .mygmlink.com. I guess it must have changed in the last couple of years. Thanks.

I usually call around to the local shops and tell them what I need done, according to the manual. They quote me a price. I've never paid more than a couple hundred bucks for the full routine. If you go to the dealer, they'll charge you msrp for everything (including the oil change) As far as the tonneau cover goes, don't pay more than $630, if that's what the real cost was. If they want to charge you more, then tell them to shove it up their a**. Have you asked 4churchill or partsguy? I stay away from the dealer except for warranty work.
